ISPI and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation are glad to confirm that the 6th edition of Rome MED Dialogues will be held on the 3rd and 4th of December in Rome and through a series of online interactive events starting from November the 25th.
Over the past 5 years, Rome MED-Dialogues has established itself as the hub for in-person meetings among high-level representatives from governments, international organizations and the civil society.
This year, the Rome MED Conference is still planned to take place in Rome, with a “hybrid format” and in total respect of the highest personal safety and health standards. The Rome in-person meeting will be preceded by a series of high-level virtual events from November 25th till December the 3rd.
The Rome Med Dialogues 2020 will be focused on the opportunities and risks arising from the pandemic in the enlarged Mediterranean area, both from a security and economic angle.
As usual, this year’s Dialogues will offer a great opportunity to world leaders, representatives from international organizations, scholars and members of the civil society to engage in frank debates and discuss solutions to shared political, economic and social challenges. Shared challenges include: how governments can develop forms of regional cooperation to mitigate the impact of the pandemic; how to increase regional security by addressing both the military and the human dimensions; how to ease the burden of the global economic crisis on MENA economies; how citizens may pursue new forms of activism in response to growing vulnerabilities.
Over the past few months, the preparatory events to Rome MED Dialogues have grown wider, more diverse, and broader in terms of topics covered. Through innovative digital solutions, MED has been successful in ensuring its continuity with a rich program of preparatory online events: Virtual Regional Meetings, Virtual Dialogues and Virtual Panels, involving leaders, experts and representatives from the region.
As the Rome MED Conference is approaching, these new formats will remain a hallmark of this year’s event until November.
We encourage you to join us in the upcoming events and we look forward to seeing you in Rome in December.
