Ugo Giannini:
A Discussion of the Artist's Work
(Drawings of D-Day: An Artist's Journey Through War)
Presented by Maxine Giannini
Light Refreshments will be served.
“Drawings of D-Day: An Artist's Journey Through War” offers an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind testimony in words and images by a soldier and artist of the U.S. Army’s 29th Infantry Division, of one of the most famous military operations of World War II, the D-Day landing and invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. These are the only known drawings made that historic day, as well as the next. Drawn in pencil and pen, in a gritty, realistic style, the images show heavily burdened infantrymen trying to stay afloat in the seawater, crawling on the beach or dead among the ruins of a bombed out village. Interwoven with letters home written by a young man to his family and his girlfriend, the words and images portray the horror of war in a deep and personal way.

Healing Dance and Percussion Workshop (Part 3)
Conducted by Alessandra Belloni
Workshop featuring Southern Italian ritual dances used as music and dance therapy combined with their unique style of tambourine, and focusing on the ancient healing trance dance of the Tarantella, used to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula.
Part three of a three part series. The final part will be dedicated to the healing trance dance of purification called Pizzica Tarantata, used to cure a mental disorder called Tarantismo, which afflicted mainly women, who felt stuck in the spider web of their society. Every student will learn the steps of the Pizzica, which are very fast and energetic. Part of the ritual takes place on the floor, and the dance is actually a spider-like movement on the ground. This part has the most amazing healing effect, releasing stress, blockage of sexual energy, as well as opening the heart and throat chakra according to the movements, as if coming out of an imaginary Spiderweb.
