Dear IPI Members, Partners and Friends,
As the New Year approaches I would like to announce changes in the leadership of the International Press Institute (IPI), a world’s leading organization fighting for press freedom, protection of human rights, freedom of expression, as well as the promotion of the free flow of information and high standards of journalism.
IPI Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie will be leaving us at the end of the year.
During her five years with the IPI, Alison has done a lot to modernize the organization, leading it to meet the challenges of the XXI century, being a motor of the IPI’s vibrant, annual World Congresses and our chief tough negotiator with those world leaders who still neglect the press freedom ideas and ignore the professional rights of journalists to freely and safely do their work and the right of its citizens to know.
Barbara Trionfi, IPI Deputy Director and a prominent member of the IPI team for the last 14 years, an internationally known and highly respected press freedom guru, will take over the position of IPI Interim Executive Director as of January 1, 2015.
While entering its 65th anniversary year, IPI would like to develop further cooperation with all its partners, adhere to its existing contracts and agreements and we hope to make new friends. The IPI team is working hard in the interests of its members on all its projects dedicated to safety of journalists, decriminalization of defamation, promoting press freedom and journalism best practices.
The IPI team is also working to prepare the annual World Congress in Myanmar from March 27-29, 2015, where we look forward to welcoming our members, partners and all colleagues who would like to join us for this fabulous event. Join us and you won’t regret it!
