PRESEPIO NAPOLETANO

Lecture and Photo Exhibit by Anita Sanseverino
DVD presentation by Anita Sanseverino and Lou Barella
Lecture and photo exhibit dedicated to the Presepio Napoletano (Neapolitan Style Nativity Scene). The annual Presepio, on loan from the Federazione delle Associazione della Campania USA, Inc., will be unveiled as well. The evening's program will also feature a DVD based presentation with music and photos of Presepi taken by Anita Sanseverino throughout Naples and in the New York area including the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 18th century collection. Photos and Presepio will be on display at the Museum until Jan. 15, 2015.

RHYTHM IS THE CURE
A Healing Dance and Percussion Workshop
Featuring the Tarantella Rhythms and Steps

Conducted by Alessandra Belloni

Rhythm is the cure: A Tarentella workshop conducted by Alessandra Belloni, the Artistic Director, Founder and Lead Performer of “I Giullari di Piazza”, an Italian Music, Theatre and Dance Ensemble and Artists-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. She is the only woman in the U.S. and in Italy who specializes in traditional Southern Italian folk dances and percussion combined with singing that she learned in Southern Italy.

AN ITALIAN AMERICAN CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK

The Museum’s second annual open house for decoration of the Italian American Museum Christmas tree. Attendees are encouraged to bring family ornaments and help adorn the tree with them. Co-Sponsored by Arthur Piccolo, who will record the event for the third installment of “Being Italian American at Christmas,” an annual Christmas tradition where Italian Americans share personal memories and stories for the purpose of leaving a video record for future generations to enjoy.

LA CANTATA DI NATALE
A Neapolitan Renaissance Christmas Concert

Based on the Christmas production, “La Cantata Dei Pastori”
Presented by I Giullari Di Piazza
Featuring Neapolitan singer/actor Giuseppe De Falco
La Cantata dei Pastori is a Neapolitan Renaissance Christmas concert written and directed by Alessandra Belloni with music composed and arranged by John La Barbera. I Giullari Di Piazza and the commedia dell'arte characters enact this beloved story of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, and the triumph of good over evil. The music–tarantellas, villanellas and pastorals–comes from traditional sources, with original music by John La Barbera. “La Cantata dei Pastori” is still performed annually during the Christmas season in the environs of Naples.

Book presentation and signing by Lou DiPalo
A book presentation and signing by author and purveyor of fine Italian food specialties, Lou DiPalo. The Wall Street Journal said, “Mr. Di Palo acts as a voluble and disarming tour guide. He takes the reader on a trip through 20 regions of Italy, from Sicily to Umbria, tracing the history of a particular ingredient, such as mozzarella, created 1,000 years ago by monks in Campania to preserve milk from their water buffalo…”.

ITALIAN CHRISTMAS FOOD TRADITIONS:
La Vigilia

Presented by Fiorella DiCarlo, RD, CDN

The Naples-born registered dietitian, nutritionist and food blogger Fiorella Di Carlo will discuss Italian Christmas culinary traditions, the customs and food traditions of Southern Italy and the origins of La Vigilis: The Feast of the Seven Fishes. She will recount cooking with her family, the importance of the Presepio, Babbo Natale and the lore of La Befana (The Christmas Witch) as well as the songs and games they played. As a dietitian, she will also explain the innate benefits of eating Italian style and how to make this Christmas healthy and delicious. Fiorella will also make some of her delicious crostini for the guests to sample!

A NIGHT OF CORTO-S

Presented by italytime

For the first time in New York City, italytime unites “Corto-s and Theater” in one special night where new Italian artists are featured. The evening's program will consist of six short films by new Italian directors and one live theater performance of Aldo Nicolaj's “The Man From the South”.
