TWO AWARD WINNING ITALIAN AMERICAN AUTHORS
PRESENTING THEIR BOOKS:

DANIELA GIOSEFFI American Book Award Winner of fourteen books of prose and poetry, is a winner of the John Ciardi Lifetime Achievement Award in Poetry, the OSIA New York State Literary Award, and two grant awards from The New York State Council for the Arts, and
MICHAEL PALMA, renowned poet/ translatorof Dante and several other Italian poets, and poetry editor of Italian Americana, will read from their books and sign them to benefit the Italian American Museum.
DANIELA GIOSEFFI is a widely published author who has read from her books on campuses and at cultural centers, from Columbia and Princeton to Oxford or Venice, and Barcelona, as well as for National Public Radio as well as British Broadcasting. She's read and been interviewed on the Poet & The Poem radio show of The Library of Congress, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. She is editor of www.PoetsUSA.com where more information can be found about her many years as a pioneering Italian American woman writer, among the first to be widely published in the mainstream of American literature.
Her book Women on War; International Writings, American Book Award, 1990, is a women's studies classic
in print for over 30 years, and in an all new edition from The Feminist Press; CUNY. Her world compendium,
On Prejudice: A Global Perspective (Anchor/Doubleday, 1993) won a World Peace Award and was presented at the United Nations. Its fifty page essay by Gioseffi has been used around the country for tolerance teaching. Her verse was etched in marble on a a wall of the 7th Avenue Concourse of PENN Station with that of Walt Whitman's, the only Italian named poet to appear there. She has been given a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Association of Italian American Educators, a John Ciardi Lifetime Achievement Award in Poetry, and the OSIA New York State Literary Award. She will read from her latest book, a bilingual edition of her new and selected poems, titled Blood Autumn, Autunno di sangue. Her work has appeared in numerous literary magazines and anthologies from The Paris Review to The Nation, to Stories of the American Experience, Oxford University Press.
MICHAEL PALMA has published two poetry chapbooks, *The Egg Shape and Antibodies*, and a full length
collection, *A Fortune in Gold,*(Gradiva* *Publications, P.O. Box 831, Stony Brook, NY 11790*.*) as
well as an Internet chapbook, *The Ghost of Congress Street: Selected Poems, *on The New Formalist
Press Web site. His eleven translations include prize-winning volumes of Guido Gozzano, Franco Buffoni,
Paolo Valesio, Ljuba Merline Bortolani, Maura Del Serra (with Emanuel di Pasquale), Alfredo de Palchi
(with Luigi Bonaffini), Enzo Varollo, and Diego Valeri with Princeton University Press. His fully rhymed
version of Dante's Inferno* was published by W.W. Norton in 2002, and reissued as a Norton Critical
Edition in 2007. His translation of the poetry of Giovanni Raboni, for which he won the
Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Fellowship of The Academy of American Poets, was published by Chelsea
Editions. He has also published books by Sergio Corazzini, Armando Patti, Luigi Fontanella, and edited
New Italian Poets with Dana Gioia, as well as a volume of translations from Luciano Erba with Alfredo de
Palchi. His essay, “The Road to Rome, and Back Again” appeared in The Pushcart Prize XVII (2003).
Michael Palma is, also, the poetry editor for Italian Americana magazine. A former New Yorker, he currently
resides in Vermont with his wife Victoria.
