Director Kim Ki-duk's movie “Arirang,” received the top prize in the “Un Certain Regard” category at the 64th Cannes Film Festival in France. Son Tae-gyun also received third prize for his work “Ya-Gan-Bi-Hang (Fly by Night)”in the student film competition.
Choung Byoung-gug, the minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, congratulated the two directors and said the films are very creative and will play a crucial role in promoting Korean films worldwide.
”Arirang” is Kim’s first film in three years, and he not only directed the film but wrote and starred in it. Kim has won several international prizes for his previous films, “Samaritan Girl” and “3-Iron.”
