MEXICO´S WOMEN HOSPITAL KEEPS ZERO MATERNAL MORTALITY OF ECLAMPSIA

• Specialists presented a successful case of mother diagnosed with this condition.

• The number of cases has reduced by early detection and treatment, offered by Mexico´s health institutions.

For the seventh consecutive year, the *Women's Hospital of the Mexico´s Ministry of Health, remains at zero maternal mortality associated with complications of eclampsia, although in this country, is the leading cause of death among pregnant women, reported Dr. Benjamin Orozco Zuñiga, Medical Deputy Director of this institution.

At a press conference, accompanied by his team of specialists; Doctors Yolanda Rivas Ramirez, head of Intensive Care, and Yesica Pellegrini, resident of Gynecology service; Orozco Zuñiga said this is a major achievement of the multidisciplinary group of this hospital, because the patients arrive in a very serious condition, having no prenatal care.

He explained that the adolescent patients regularly, come in unconscious state, after being convulsed.

He said that in such situations, should be given timely and accurate care, to avoid further complications.

Currently, the Mexico´s Women Hospital treats 40 to 50 patients per year with diagnosis of eclampsia. Preeclampsia, which is due to eclampsia, occurs after 20 weeks of the gestation.

The cause of preeclampsia is not known, however, there are multiple associated risk factors such as age, heredity, as well as associated own or kidney disease in twin pregnancies

Dr. Orozco Zuñiga reported that the number of cases has been reduced by early detection and treatment offered by health institutions.

Dr. Yolanda Rivas Ramirez, head of Intensive Care, presented the developments that have taken into care in this type of disease in the recent decades.

The specialists presented the case of Alejandra Santander Aurea Barrios, who was treated for eclampsia in recent months. Both, mother and baby are in good health. This case is explained a successful example of attention.

The girl's mother, Marina Barrios Lopez, presented the same condition 20 years ago, along with seizures secondary to a hypertensive disease, and was treated by the same specialist who treated her daughter.

In the early 80's, they died more than 50 percent of women with eclampsia, and currently in Mexico, there is not reported maternal mortality because of this disease.

Its main purpose is the patient care in the fields of Gynaecology, Obstetrics, and Gynecologic Oncology and Neonatal Care of newborns in the hospital.

The Women's Hospital provides gynecological, obstetric and gynecologic oncology women across the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year consultations.
