In Memoriam: Hon. Mario Biaggi

Mario Biaggi passed away Wednesday, June 24th at his Bronx home at the age of 97. Beloved husband of the late Marie, his survivors include his four children: Jacqueline, Barbara, Richard and Mario, Jr.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mario Biaggi was born in East Harlem, NY on October 26, 1917. In 1942, he joined the New York City Police Department and embarked on a career that spanned 23 years. He retired from the Department in 1965, with the rank of Detective Lieutenant. He holds the police department’s medal of honor plus twenty-seven other decorations including the Medal of Honor for Valor from the National Police Officers Association of America. He is a member of the Association’s Hall of Fame and was elected president in 1967. In 1968, he was elected to Congress as a Democrat and served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from January 3, 1969 until August 5, 1988.
