CARVING A NICHE FOR HIMSELF

The Untold Story of Luigi Del Bianco

Book Presentation by Douglas J. Gladstone

“Carving a Niche for Himself: The Untold Story of Luigi Del Bianco”, tells the story of Luigi Del Bianco, the obscure Italian American immigrant who served as chief carver of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Though Rushmore sculptor and designer Gutzon Borglum's own correspondence in the Library of Congress clearly indicates that Luigi Del Bianco was the glue that held the project together, Del Bianco for some inexplicable reason has never received the credit in scholarly publications or documentaries on the creation of the memorial that many individuals believe he is deserving of.

To order the book in advance of Douglas Gladstone's July 2nd appearance (he will autograph copies of the book for free), please contact Rebecca at Bordighera Press by telephone at 212-642-2001 or visit http://www.bordigherapress.org/OrderBooks.html no later than Wednesday, June 18th.

THE MARQUIS OF ROCCAVERDINA

Book Presentation by Santi V. Buscemi

An engrossing and moving story, The Marquis of Roccaverdina (1903), is a psychological tour de force, which analyzes the life of a Sicilian aristocrat forced to choose between his passion for a beautiful peasant woman and the demands of a moribund social structure that preclude his marrying below his station. Attempting to resolve the dilemma, he makes a decision that leads to a life tortured by jealousy, guilt and self-recrimination.
