Seoul, a city bursting with delectable retail in every corner, is becoming tastier this fall. Starting on October 31, the capital city offers a feast of culinary delights for the Seoul Gourmet 2011 culinary festival held at multiple venues.

The culinary event, which follows the inaugural Amazing Korean Table 2009, seeks to introduce Korea’s rich flavors, ingredients, and culture to the world. Six of the world’s leading chefs scattered around the globe will converge in Seoul to take part in the third annual culinary festival.

Among the internationally acclaimed chefs invited to participate in Seoul Gourmet 2011 are master of sous-vide cooking and Catalan cuisine Joan Roca and French gastronomy trend-setter Pascal Barbot, both three stars chefs acknowledged by the renowned Michelin Guide. Other participating chefs include Belgium’s representative of molecular gastronomy Sang-Hoon Degeimbre, Sweden’s eco-conscious chef Bjorn Frantzen, Britain’s master of nouvelle Korean cuisine and slow food Judy Joo, and French chocolatier and pâtissier Stephane Leroux.

This year, Seoul Gourmet 2011 is expected to provide international media and culinary heavyweights with opportunities to enjoy traditional Korean dishes through the two-day tour program Savor Korea. On October 31, participants will visit Jeonju Hanok Village to experience traditional food and culture. The next day, the invited chefs, joined by a group of journalists, will explore a vast array of Hansik (Korean food) ingredients on a visit to local food markets including Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market and Hanaro Mart in Yangjae-dong.

The festival is also designed to bring some of the most exquisite palates to Korean epicures and food admirers throughout the event. From November 2 to 4, six international chefs will participate in a master class where they will talk about cooking skills, culinary philosophy, and current trends. Following the lecture, gastronomic demonstrations and degustation are also planned for this public event.

For the Star Chef Dinner event from November 1 to 4, the invited chefs will offer recipes combining the highest quality Hansik ingredients with their artistic creations in various hotel restaurants across the city.

During the culinary feast, a selection of local restaurants run by Korean celebrity chefs will present a special menu dedicated to the Seoul Gourmet. A pre-gala event is also being held from October 26 to 29 to celebrate the third year of the festival.
