Korea No. 2 in LED industry

Korea now ranks second in the worldwide LED industry. According to the Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, sales by Korean LED manufacturers doubled to 6.9 trillion won (US $6.35 billion) last year from 3.1 trillion won (US$2.9 billion) in 2009, rising from fourth to second place internationally.

The ministry has increased LED distribution to local government buildings to 14 percent and 8 percent at public institutions, and changed 90 percent of the nation’s traffic lights to LEDs.

The Korean government plans to increased LED distribution to 60 of all lighting nationally by 2020 and cease the production and sale of incandescent laps by 2014.
