The Italian American Museum is pleased to present a one act play about Giuseppe Garibaldi by acclaimed Italian playwright Mario Fratti. Garibaldi is one of the most important and influential figures in both Italian and World history. Born on July 4, 1807 in the former Italian city of Nice, he led many of the military campaigns that brought about the formation of a unified Italy. He is called the “Hero of Two Worlds,” in tribute to his expeditions in South America and Europe.

Mario Fratti is a drama critic and playwright who the New York Times calls, “one of Italy's leading playwrights. He was born in Italy but has been living in New York since 1963. His plays have been performed in more than six hundred theatres and his musical, Nine (his adaptation of Fellini's film 8 1/2), has won the O'Neil Selection Award, the Richard Rodgers Award, the Outer Critic Circle Award, the Leone di San Marco Literary Award, the Heritage and Culture Award, eight Drama Desk Awards and seven Tony Awards.

Laura Caparrotti (Director) holds a Masters Degree in Performing Arts, Cinema and Theater History from “La Sapienza” University in Rome. After ten years of professional theater in Italy, she relocated to New York where she has directed and/or performed at The Kitchen, The Fringe Festival, the Abrons Art Center, the Bernie West Theatre and the Casa Zerilli-Marimò, among other venues. She is the world-wide representative of the De Curtis family and the curator of “Excerpts of a Prince Named Totò,” the official traveling exhibition on the Italian actor Totò. She is also a playwright, a journalist, a teacher of Italian and Theater, a curator and a panelist for NYSCA. She is a member of the Director's Lab at Lincoln Center and the Artistic Director of Kairos Italy Theater.
